February 20, 2006 : 135th birthday of L’Union Alsacienne. More that 50 gathered at last minute party organized for the 135th birthday of L’Union Alsacienne. Drinks were held at The Modern, the gastronomic restaurant of The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), 9 W 53rd street. Besides the pillars of the Association, Mrs and Mister Stoehr, the Seybold Family, Claude Zeller, Jean Alfano and Cecile Schlur were also seen Member Olivier Nicolay, Professor at NYU, as well as the President of the United Nations German Staff Association, Heike Alefsen, and President of the United Nations French Staff Association Geoffroy Poire. A huge crowd of Young Alsatian gathered, some of them in New York for a few monthes only, like Benoît Meister (Wintzenheim) and Aurelien Buffler (Drusenheim). Also there the whole Rubin tribe, whose daughter Delphine is gonna get married in Mittelbergheim this summer while son Henri Alex has been nominated at 78th Oscar for his documentary “Murderball”. Big thanks to the photographer of the event, Dave Hanley, whose grand parents were Keller from Alsace, who discovered the association last Summer at Bastille Day street fair. Let’s point out that some very courageous young members made it to another Alsatian restaurant after this event and had a late dinner at SEPPI’s (56th street) where the backwall wears a painting illustrating the centre of the Alsatian City of Altkirch. Many thanks to the Excutive chef of The Modern, Alsatian Gabriel Kreuther (Niederschaffolsheim) and the Alsatian Wine Director, Stephane Colling (Hochfelden). Pictures here.
